Nivedita Basu remembers Sushant Singh Rajput: “He was almost there…”

Sushant Singh Rajput

The sudden death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, back in 2020, had shaken the entire country, and there are many fans of the actor who still take to social media to write about him. This is why when director-producer Nivedita Basu spoke about Sushant in a recent interview, snippets went viral.

When asked about the kind of person he was, and what she misses about him, she spoke her heart out about his wonderful nature and achievements.

“The kind of effortless actor he was, which we all saw in Pavitra Rishta. He was (one of) the breed (of actors) who had worked on his craft so much. There was a time when this breed of actors came, there was Ayushmann and Rajkummar, and then there were the Khans and the Kapoors who were there. I felt so proud because I knew that he was also getting his due. He was almost there. There was nothing that would have touched him to become like the top,” she said.

She added, “Then the unfortunate incident happened, but I knew his nature. He could not upset anyone. He managed to do all that without any conflict. The kind of person he was, and the pace he was going at, koi nazar lag gayi.”

Sushant passed away on June 14, 2020, in Mumbai, leaving the entire nation in shock. His sudden death sparked widespread conversations about mental health, nepotism, and the pressures of the film industry. Sushant and Nivedita had always shared a warm equation. Nivedita, who worked closely with producer Ekta Kapoor, has often, in the past too, praised Sushant’s dedication and humility during his time on the show Pavitra Rishta.
