From Kolkata’s heart to the shelves of India’s literature scene, meet the young poet making her mark with raw honesty and lyrical brilliance.

In the bustling alleys of Kolkata, where culture meets chaos and tradition blends with modernity, was born a girl with a notebook in her hand and dreams in her eyes. Mitisha Mukherji, a young author and poet, is quickly becoming a recognizable name in the Indian literary landscape, especially among those who seek depth, emotion, and soul in poetry.

At just 22, Mitisha has authored two remarkable books — Shaat-Panch and Carols of Caroline — both of which showcase her ability to turn life’s experiences into compelling poetic expressions. Her work explores themes as varied as love, loss, societal transformation, identity, travel, childhood, and the inner psyche, all while maintaining a voice that is deeply personal and universally relatable.

The Beginning of a Dream

Mitisha’s journey began not with grand ambitions, but with quiet introspections. Raised in a Bengali family in Kolkata, she was surrounded by art, literature, and emotional richness from a young age. Encouraged by her parents, Ambarnil Mukhopadhyay and Moumita Mukherjee, she began penning poems during her early school days. What started as a means of expression soon transformed into a passion that would shape her identity.

Poetry, to me, has always been about capturing emotions that words usually fail to hold,” says Mitisha. Her style echoes this — poignant, raw, and lyrical.

Shaat-Panch: The Debut that Left a Mark

Released in July 2024, Shaat-Panch is a Bengali poetry collection published by Granthana Publications. The book is a beautiful blend of themes such as philosophy, childhood wonder, romance, and the spirit of adventure. It’s not just a collection of poems, but a poetic narrative of emotions that speak across generations.

The book received critical recognition and was honored with the International Excellence Award 2024, marking Mitisha’s arrival as a voice worth noticing. It also gained significant traction when showcased at the International Kolkata Book Fair 2024, placing her work among some of the finest contemporary Bengali literature.

Carols of Caroline: A Tale of Life’s Transitions

In 2025, Mitisha followed up with her second book, Carols of Caroline, published by BS Production (Bookspot Publishers). Written in English, this book is an exploration of a Woman’s journey through life’s changing tides. It portrays transformation — from innocence to awareness, from love to heartbreak, from fear to resilience.

This emotionally charged collection was nominated for the Legacy of Literature Award 2025 by The Literature Times, further establishing Mitisha’s versatility in both language and emotional depth.

Words Beyond Books

Apart from her solo titles, Mitisha has contributed to several national anthologies, including:

  • Nebula Dreams by Greenwood Publishers
  • 120 Best Poems by Authors of India by Manda Publishers
  • Be Limitless and She Rises She Shines by Blue Cloud Publishers

Each poem in these collections reflects her core values — emotional honesty, hope, courage, and the subtle blend of modernity with deep-rooted culture.
